Charlie Daniels Band/Doo Wah Riders, Mitchell, SD

You really can't ask much more out of an entertainer, especially a 76-year-old. Charlie Daniels and his band brought a ton of energy to the World's Only Corn Palace on August 23, 2012.

I've been a casual fan of the Charlie Daniels Band over the years, but hadn't followed his career enough to realize what an accomplished guitar picker he is along with his fiddle skills. Several long instrumental jams featuring the whole band had me wondering if I was watching Santana or Rush instead of a "good ole boys" country band. Also featured were some gospel with "How Great Thou Art" and a heartfelt Johnny Cash tribute. Not to worry though, the big hits were there too - "Legend of Wooley Swamp," "The South's Gonna Do It Again," "Long Haired Country Boy," and of course "The Devil Went Down to Georgia."

Opening act the Doo Wah Riders were good as well and had the audience well warmed up for the CDB.

Too bad that Charlie,Band and Crew hasn't learned that if everyone plays as loud as they can, the audience can't hear anyone in the band! What a waste of our time, money and his talent! Had to leave after the second song due to the incredibly deafening volume. Spoke with the Manager of the Corn Palace and requested that the volume be turned down, to no avail. The devil came to Mitchell, SD and could have cared less! Don't buy a ticket to the Corn Palace again...

Really sorry to hear you felt that way. Just guessing, but you probably haven't been to a lot of rock concerts? I did not actually feel it was all that loud and I walked around right past the main speakers. I've heard much, much louder, but then I've been to a lot of concerts. In defense of the Corn Palace manager, once a concert starts I doubt he's going to have a lot of pull with the sound crew about something like that unless it's knocking tiles out of the ceiling or something.

Hey Chad, Good guess, but I've been to John Mellencamp (3 times), Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty, ZZ Top, Billy Joel, Elton John, Bob Seger, Willie Nelson, B.B. King... Just wondering - are you hearing impaired? (Likely after Charlie Daniel's show!) The vast majority who stayed could adjust their noise-cancelling hearing aids. So sorry to contradict your glowing review... Knock yourself out, dude! XOXO

I stand corrected. I can hear okay, but you may be somewhat right after all the concerts and car races I've shot. Perhaps it depended on where you were in the room.

One more thought, I wouldn't hold one bad experience against the Corn Palace. The volume level is the band and/or sound crew's doing, not the building's.
