Little Texas, Fort Pierre, SD

Capping off a two-night portion of the Bad River Music Series in Fort Pierre, South Dakota on July 31, 2015, Little Texas rocked a crowd outside the Silver Spur Saloon.

These guys have been friends of mine for several years, so it was a special treat to have them performing just across the Missouri River from home. I dropped by early in the afternoon for their soundcheck and enjoyed a meal and conversation before they hit their motel beds to rest up after a long overnight bus trip up from Nashville.

It was great to see lead vocalist/lead guitarist Porter Howell in a happy mood and having fun mingling with the crowd just a day after his mother had passed away. He told me that Alzheimer's disease had really taken her several years ago, so it wasn't a shock. Family matters will be attended to when he gets home from the road this week.

The band was in top form, ripping through their hits like "Kick A Little" and "God Blessed Texas," new ones like "Young For A Long Time," ballads "My Love" and "What Might Have Been" plus extras from Ozzy Osbourne and ZZ Top. Special support for fallen soldiers is expressed in Little Texas' new single "Long Ride Home." The live performance of the song was a highlight of the show.
